Class Descriptions
ASHTANGA YOGA ASHTANGA YOGA is one of the more rigorous flow styles of yoga, linking breath with movement. It is designed to strengthen, align and purify the entire body and mind.
In the BEGINNING ASHTANGA YOGA class, students will be taught a strong foundation in the Primary Series. The poses will be taught one at a time, and each week we will build upon the previous weeks' class. Please sign up for the entire session in order to get the most out of the class. It is also recommended that you take the beginning course several times before moving on in your practice.
In the ASHTANGA MIXED LEVEL class, all levels of Ashtanga practicioners are welcome to attend. The ASHTANGA LED PRIMARY class is designed for students who already have knowledge of all the Primary Series poses and want to practice in a continuous manner, without stopping. All Ashtanga classes will encourage greater focus, endurance and flexibility.
GENTLE FLOW: this class will take students through a gentle flow or vinyasa practice (synchronizing breath and movement) with hands on attention. Each asana complements those that precede and follow. This way of practicing builds heat, endurance, flexibility, strength and focus of the mind. Emphasis will be placed on alignment, breath, body awareness, and creative sequencing that can be brought into one's home practice. Each class will begin, and end, with basic yoga stretches.
PRENATAL YOGA is taught by an experienced teacher and mother and prepares pregnant women for labor and delivery through postures, breathing exercises and relaxation.
POSTNATAL YOGA, like Prenatal Yoga, is oriented to the special needs of new mothers. Babies of pre-crawling age are welcome to this class.
Private Lessons
These appointments are available to any student who is interested in receiving one on one instruction. Private instruction is quite helpful in assisting students who want to deepen their existing yoga practice or for beginning students who want to jump start their yoga practice. To schedule an appointment, email Melanie or call 510-368-3581.
