Workshop Descriptions

MONTHLY ASHTANGA LED PRIMARY SERIES
Sundays, 4:30-6:30 p.m., Studio C (once per month), cost $20.

These classes, open to intermediate and advanced students, are designed to be an in-depth practice that will include all poses in the primary series and will be taught in a continuous manner without stopping. We often do meditation and pranayama in this class.

BEGINNING ASHTANGA YOGA WORKSHOP
Ten Tuesdays, 9:30 to 11 am, Studio 209, cost $150 for ten-class series.
April 11 through June 13, 2017

The Beginning Ashtanga Spring Series is for continuing students of all levels. The class will allow time for deepening the foundation of the Primary Series of Ashtanga. Students will be encouraged to practice outside of class in order to deepen the work they do in class with Melanie. This will also help students create a stronger connection to the practice. This series will give students the chance to better understand and experience the pacing of Ashtanga Yoga, a vigourous flow style of yoga linking breath with movement. Each class will include a seated meditation, yoga philosophy, and hands on attention. We will build on previous experience to create a cohesive and holistic experience for each student.

ADVANCED ASHTANGA YOGA WORKSHOP
Fridays, 9:30 to 11 am, Studio 209, cost $120 for ten-class series.
April 14 through June 6, 2017 (no class on April 21)

In the Advanced Ashtanga Series, intermediate students will study together to learn the second half of the Primary Series of Ashtanga. The class will focus most of its energy on helping students become familiar and comfortable with the more advanced postures in the second half of the Primary Series. Students will also be encouraged to practice outside of class in order to deepen the work they do in class. Students will become more familiar with the pace of the class, as well as the finishing postures. Ashtanga Yoga is a vigourous flow style of yoga, linking breath with movement. Each class will include a seated meditation, yoga philosophy, and hands on attention. We will build on previous experience to create a cohesive and holistic experience for each student.

2ND SERIES EXPLORATION
Mondays, 7:30 to 9 pm, Studio 209, cost $140 for ten-class series.

2nd Series Exploration is for students experienced in the Primary Series and ready to explore the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga. This class is based on the traditional Ashtanga practice, but may veer from the traditional order at times for the benefit of understanding the postures and having fun.

MONTHLY MYSORE CLASS
None scheduled at this time.

Mysore instruction is taught in the traditional method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, South India. Learning in this way supports the development of a personal yoga practice, which helps to build self-reliance on and off the mat. This class is suitable for all levels of Ashtanga practitioners. Students progress silently, at their own pace. During the class time, individual instruction and adjustments will be given. Postures are taught one at a time, according to each student's individual needs. Since this class is not "led", the atmosphere is quiet and focused.

RESTORATIVE YOGA WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN
None scheduled at this time.

Celebrate your body and mind by joining Melanie for a morning of yoga focused on restorative yoga poses designed to help nourish the female body. The practice will include a meditation, gentle stretches, and restorative postures. This workshop is a great way to end your weekend and take time for yourself.

YOGA & NUTRITION
None scheduled at this time.

As we practice yoga, we naturally become more interested in what we put into our bodies. We can directly distinguish the connection between the quality of practice we experience and the kinds and amounts of food we eat. Join me for a direct experience of yoga and food. Each week we will practice yoga, share food, and enjoy company.

The class will include yoga practice, nutrition, and group process. The yoga practice will include both active and passive poses, as well as meditation. It is a class that is suitable for all levels of yogis. It will provide support, discussion, yoga, and encouragement to live well and eat well. Between each meeting, homework will be given in order to make the most out of each session.

Space is limited to 12 individuals.
